# NIDEC directors, officers and board committees before 2026

**Question.** Who ran NIDEC, and who sat on its board and board committees, before the 2026 changes?

**Answer.** Shigenobu Nagamori founded NIDEC in July 1973 as president and chief executive officer; he kept the chief executive post when Hiroyuki Yoshimoto became the first president other than Nagamori in June 2018, Jun Seki was chief executive from June 2021 until Nagamori took the role back in April 2022, and Hiroshi Kobe became president in September 2022. From 1 April 2024 Mitsuya Kishida became president and CEO, Nagamori Global Group Representative and Kobe director and chairman, an arrangement that differed from the succession plan announced in March 2023. The nomination committee set up in November 2022 and the compensation committee both had inside members, among them Nagamori and later Kishida, until Kishida left them in 2026.

## Presidents and chief executives before April 2024

- Analysis: Shigenobu Nagamori led NIDEC from its foundation. According to NIDEC's annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025, filed on 26 September 2025, he founded the company in July 1973 as representative director, president and chief executive officer, became representative director, chairman and president in October 2014 and, in June 2018, representative director and chairman, also chairing the board of directors. The same report records him as chief executive officer from April 2022 and as representative director and Global Group Representative from April 2024; its entry for June 2024 shows him as Global Group Representative chairing the board. The report keeps the title of chairman separate from the function of chairing the board: its April 2024 entry does not mention chairing the board, and it does not say who chaired the board between April and June 2024. [src-016]
- Analysis: Nagamori also held posts outside the parent company. The annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2022 lists him, then representative director and chairman, as chairman of Nidec Shimpo since June 2013, of Nidec Mobility since November 2019 and of Nidec Techno Motor since October 2021, and as chair of the Kyoto Gakuen school corporation (now Nagamori Gakuen) since March 2018. A NIDEC notice of 13 March 2023 states that Nidec Shimpo would be renamed Nidec Drive Technology on 1 April 2023. [src-017] [src-121]
- Analysis: The first president other than Nagamori was Hiroyuki Yoshimoto. The Third-Party Committee's report states that in June 2018 Yoshimoto, then representative director, executive vice president and chief operating officer and formerly of Nissan Motor, was appointed representative director, president and chief operating officer, while Nagamori, now representative director and chairman, retained the chief executive officer position. According to a press report, Yoshimoto had joined NIDEC in 2015 and served as president of subsidiaries and as executive vice president; he was president for about two years, became executive vice president when Jun Seki became president, and left NIDEC at the end of May 2021. The end of his presidency and his departure date come from that press account; no NIDEC filing among the sources records them. The same account identifies him as the person who in August 2023 became representative director, president and chief operating officer of Evident Corporation. [src-004] [src-046]
- Analysis: Jun Seki, previously an executive officer and deputy chief operating officer of Nissan Motor, joined NIDEC as a special adviser in January 2020, according to the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2022. He became president and chief operating officer and chairman of Nidec India in April 2020, representative director and president and chairman of Nidec Tosok (now Nidec Powertrain Systems) in June 2020, and chief executive officer on 22 June 2021. The same report explains that, in view of economic and political risks, Nagamori would take management responsibility as chief executive officer while Seki, as representative director and president (chief operating officer), concentrated on the automotive business; it described this structure as short-term and premised on developing successors. Seki became chief operating officer in April 2022, and the report for the following fiscal year states that he resigned as a director on 2 September 2022. [src-017] [src-112]
- Analysis: Hiroshi Kobe became president in September 2022. According to the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025, Kobe took part in NIDEC's founding in July 1973, became a director in November 1984, chief operating officer in April 2005, representative director and executive vice president in June 2006, representative director and vice chairman in June 2015, chief performance officer in May 2022, representative director, president and chief operating officer in September 2022 and director and chairman in April 2024; he was also chairman of Nidec Techno Motor from April 2024 and of Nidec Global Service from April 2025. ## The 2023 succession plan and the April 2024 change

- Analysis: In March 2023 NIDEC announced how the next president would be chosen. Its notice of 13 March 2023, issued under representative director and president Hiroshi Kobe, said an extraordinary board meeting on 10 March 2023 had appointed five executive vice presidents from 1 April 2023, among them Tatsuya Nishimoto (head of the machinery business unit and president of Nidec Drive Technology), Yoshihisa Kitao (head of the group companies business unit, in charge of the small precision motor business unit) and Mitsuya Kishida (head of the automotive business unit). The president from April 2024 would be chosen from these five and serve four years, then four years as chairman; in April 2024 founder Nagamori would become director and group representative and Kobe representative director, chairman and CEO. The arrangement adopted from 1 April 2024 differed from that plan: Kishida became president and chief executive officer, Nagamori representative director and Global Group Representative, and Kobe director and chairman. [src-075] [src-121]
- Analysis: NIDEC's notice of 14 February 2024, which announced the changes effective 1 April 2024, also gave the previous posts: Nagamori had been representative director, chairman and chief executive officer, Kobe representative director, president and chief operating officer, and Kishida executive vice president and head of the automotive business unit. Kobe's new title in the notice, director and chairman, is distinct from chairing the board of directors. The same notice announced that from 1 April 2024 Valter Taranzano would be promoted from senior vice president to first senior vice president as head of the appliance business unit, with posts including chairman of Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding and vice-chairman of Nidec Motor Corporation, and that Michael Briggs would be promoted from senior vice president to first senior vice president as head of the motion and energy business unit, remaining president of Nidec Motor Corporation. [src-075]
- Analysis: Kishida came to NIDEC from Sony. According to the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025, he joined Sony in 1983, was president of Sony Mobile Communications from April 2018 and joined NIDEC in January 2022 as senior vice president. NIDEC's notice of 17 June 2022 announced that from 1 July 2022 he would be promoted to first senior vice president as deputy head of the automotive business unit in charge of its second automotive division, Europe CEO and head of the Europe and Americas business, while continuing as chief executive officer of Nidec Motors & Actuators (Germany) and of Nidec GPM and as president of the Spanish and Polish Nidec Motors & Actuators companies. [src-016] [src-121] [src-074]
- Analysis: A NIDEC notice of 13 March 2023 shows Kishida as head of the automotive business unit from September 2022, and the annual securities report for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025 records that he became executive vice president in April 2023, president and chief executive officer in April 2024, representative director in June 2024 and additionally chief strategy officer in April 2025. The same report lists him as chairman of Nidec Powertrain Systems since September 2023, of Nidec Elesys (which the report describes as now Nidec Mobility) from September 2023 and of Nidec Mobility since October 2023, and the notice of 14 February 2024 lists him as vice-chairman of Guangzhou Nidec Auto Drive System. [src-016] [src-121] [src-075]
- Analysis: Kitao and Nishimoto came to NIDEC from banking, according to the notice of 13 March 2023. Yoshihisa Kitao, formerly of Sumitomo Bank (now Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation), joined NIDEC in April 2012, became general manager of the affiliated-companies management department in July 2012, vice president in April 2013, senior vice president in charge of affiliated-companies management in May 2016, first senior vice president in June 2021 and head of the group companies business unit in May 2022. Tatsuya Nishimoto, formerly of Mitsui Bank (now Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation), joined NIDEC in May 2009, became director and first senior vice president of Nidec Shimpo in June 2009, its representative director and president in April 2013, chairman of Nidec Machine Tool in August 2021 and chairman of OKK (now Nidec OKK) in June 2022. Both were to become executive vice presidents from 1 April 2023, Nishimoto also as head of the machinery business unit and president of Nidec Drive Technology, the renamed Nidec Shimpo. [src-121]

## Nomination and compensation committees

- Analysis: NIDEC's board set up a nomination committee on 5 November 2022 as an advisory body on the appointment policy, criteria and candidates for directors and executive officers, according to its notice of 13 March 2023. The members were outside director Takako Sakai as chair, representative directors Shigenobu Nagamori and Hiroshi Kobe, and outside directors Yayoi Komatsu and Aya Yamada. The notice said the committee had met twice and deliberated on selection criteria, succession planning and candidates for executive vice president. [src-121]
- Analysis: Both committees had inside members. NIDEC's annual securities reports state that in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2022 the compensation committee consisted of two inside directors, including representative director and chairman Nagamori, and three independent outside directors, and that in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025 the nomination and compensation committees each had two inside and three independent outside directors. An outside director had chaired the nomination committee since its establishment in fiscal 2022 (the year ended 31 March 2023) and the compensation committee since fiscal 2024 (the year ended 31 March 2025). [src-017] [src-016]

The nomination committee's members were Mitsuya Kishida, Yayoi Komatsu, Takako Sakai, Aya Yamada and Hiroshi Yoshii, who joined on 20 June 2025; Kishida left it on 26 March 2026 so that it would consist only of outside directors, and Komatsu, Sakai and Yamada left on 18 June 2026. On the compensation committee Nagamori left on 20 June 2025 and Yoshii joined the same day; Kishida, Shinichi Sato, Sakai and Yamada left on 18 June 2026. [src-003]
