1Founder, chief executive and director

analysisNorthvolt's 2022 and 2023 annual reports list Peter Carlsson as chief executive officer and co-founder, a member of the executive team since 2016, and as a board member elected in 2016 who attended committee meetings in the capacity of chief executive. Among Northvolt representatives who met the then federal economics minister Robert Habeck between November 2022 and October 2023, the German federal government's answer to a parliamentary question names Carlsson as chief executive; it notes that its list may be incomplete and that no commitments were made in the meetings. 1 2 3

analysisMedia reported in November 2024, a week after the chapter 11 filing, that Carlsson had stepped down as chief executive; registry records reproduced by a business-information service show Carlsson leaving the post of managing director of Northvolt AB on 2024-12-17 and its board on 2025-04-25. Over 2024–2025 the same records show Carlsson leaving the boards of the group companies Carlsson chaired or sat on: EcoDC 2 B1B2 AB and Aurora Lithium AB (2024-08-12), Northvolt Fem AB (2024-08-28), Northvolt Revolt AB (2024-09-07), Northvolt Systems AB (chairman until 2024-12-09, board member until 2024-12-17), Northvolt Ett AB (chairman until 2024-11-21, board member until 2025-01-20), Northvolt Labs AB (2025-01-20) and Northvolt Ett Expansion AB (2025-02-25), as well as the former property companies now named for Lyten (between December 2024 and March 2025) and the NOVO Energy joint-venture companies (March 2025). The service shows Northvolt Ett AB, Northvolt Ett Expansion AB, Northvolt Labs AB, Northvolt Systems AB, Northvolt Revolt AB and Aurora Lithium AB in bankruptcy (konkurs), Northvolt Fem AB and Lyten Ett Expansion Fastighetsförvaltning AB in liquidation (likvidation), and EcoDC 2 B1B2 AB and the other property and joint-venture companies as active. 4 5 6

2Shareholding

analysisPwC's due-diligence opinion of 15 June 2023 for the German federal economics ministry states that Carlsson held 6.91% of Northvolt AB through Rocarma Consulting AB, without giving a basis or reference date beyond a Northvolt corporate-structure file of 17 February 2023. The annual reports for 2022 and 2023 list Rocarma Consulting AB with 6.7% among the ten largest shareholders without naming the person behind it, and a Swedish news summary's table of November 2024, which gives no date or basis, lists "Peter Carlsson 6.9%" personally; Northvolt AB was declared bankrupt on 12 March 2025, less than four months after that table appeared. ROCARMA Consulting AB, registered in 2012, had Rolf Kurt Allan Carlsson as board member and managing director and Peter Carlsson as deputy board member until both left on 2025-12-12; its liquidation was completed on 2025-11-28 according to registry data reproduced by a business-information service. 1 2 3

3The Skellefteå investigation and the book

analysisMedia reported in May 2026 that Carlsson had been notified of suspicion of a work-environment offence and of causing another's death through gross negligence in the investigation of the November 2023 explosion at Northvolt's Skellefteå plant. A notification of suspicion is not a charge, the reports describe the suspected offences differently, and a June 2026 report says the cause of the explosion has not been established; Carlsson had earlier commented that the chief executive of Northvolt Ett, where the accident occurred, was not Carlsson. On 8 May 2026 the prosecutor was reported to have removed two former middle managers from the investigation, which continued against Carlsson and another former senior manager; that report cited the prosecutor's statement to a news agency, the inspected records contain no prosecution document, and the reports do not name the managers or the other suspect. On 23 June 2026 media reported that the preliminary investigation had been completed and sent to the defence of the two suspects for final review, with a charging decision possible in the autumn at the earliest. The same day a Swedish news report said the prosecutor expected to charge Carlsson; on 24 June the prosecutor was quoted elsewhere rejecting that report as a fabricated story. The report of the completed investigation carries a correction stating that an earlier version misdescribed the prosecutor's position on charges. Carlsson's defence lawyer said the defence would request supplementary investigative measures and expressed conviction that the prosecutor would change that view. No charging decision appears in the inspected records, the latest of which date from October 2026. 1 2 3 4 5 6

analysisA book by a Swedish journalist, relayed by media in May 2026, states that the Economic Crime Authority has opened an investigation into suspected tax and bookkeeping offences connected to Northvolt, directed at all or part of the board and the auditor without naming anyone; the authority neither confirmed nor denied it. Carlsson said in a written comment that nothing shows the board or management failed in their duties towards lenders or departed from the Companies Act, and that the information about an investigation was new to Carlsson. 2 1
