4A co-founder's view
analysis23andMe, Inc. was founded in 2006 by Anne Wojcicki, Linda Avey and Paul Cusenza as the first direct-to-consumer genetic testing company. On March 26, 2025, as reported by a news outlet, Avey wrote on X that her time at the company was cut short in 2009 when Wojcicki convinced the board that she should run it, and that Wojcicki afterwards "architected a majority vote for herself that eliminated board governance". This is Avey's personal account, not a finding about the company's governance; the report said 23andMe did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and no response by Wojcicki was found in the retained record. 1 2
