Deel: ownership, group and the Rippling litigation

Dan Westgarth

Daniel (Dan) Westgarth is Deel's chief operating officer and previously held senior roles at Revolut. Rippling added him as a defendant in June 2025, alleging that he was to see that O'Brien's consulting firm received money from Deel and that he personally called Rippling payroll staff whom Deel approached using contacts supplied by O'Brien. A court order of November 2025 records that his wife, Alba Basha, was the intermediate account holder in the payment from Deel's UK affiliate to O'Brien. The purpose of that payment is disputed, and no court has ruled on the allegations.

1Role

analysisWestgarth is Deel's chief operating officer, responsible for global operations including payroll operations and compliance; his published biography says he previously held senior leadership roles at Revolut. 2Allegations that name him

analysisRippling's amended complaint of 5 June 2025 added Westgarth as a defendant. It alleges that by December 2024 Alex Bouaziz told O'Brien that Westgarth would "see to it" that O'Brien's consulting company Global Payroll Geeks received money from Deel, and that a WhatsApp group named "Keith <> Dan" was created on 9 January 2025; and that between 29 January and 17 February 2025 Deel executives approached at least 17 members of Rippling's payroll team using contacts from O'Brien, most of whom Westgarth personally called with offers of jobs. These are Rippling's allegations; no court has ruled on them. Deel's counterclaims say Alex Bouaziz saw Global Payroll Geeks as a potentially useful business partner after O'Brien told him in 2024 that he had founded it. 1 2 3

analysisThe magistrate judge's order of 17 November 2025 records that Alba Basha, a Revolut customer whose records were made public, is married to Westgarth, and describes a payment from Lets Deel Ltd to Basha followed by a corresponding payment from Basha to O'Brien. In the Irish proceedings a judge remarked at an April 2025 hearing, after Rippling presented evidence linking Basha to Westgarth, that it "could be a coincidence, but it's unlikely". The order rules on confidentiality only and the remark is not a finding; what the payments were for has not been decided and remains disputed. Rippling's complaint states that Basha is not a Deel employee. 4 3 5 6
